{"id":153,"date":"2016-02-26T09:46:37","date_gmt":"2016-02-26T17:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iacis.com\/?page_id=153"},"modified":"2025-05-12T21:08:42","modified_gmt":"2025-05-13T01:08:42","slug":"cfce","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/allprowebworks.dev\/_iacis\/certification\/cfce\/","title":{"rendered":"CFCE"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Overview of the Certified\u00a0Forensic\u00a0Computer\u00a0Examiner Program<\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">The CFCE certification program consists of a two-stage process:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Peer Review<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Certification Testing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Both stages are required to be completed to become CFCE certified.\u00a0The candidate is required to demonstrate their knowledge of the <a href=\"https:\/\/allprowebworks.dev\/_iacis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/BCFE-CFCE-Core-Competencies.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CFCE core competencies<\/a>\u200b and practical skills by successfully completing the peer review, practical and written examination instruments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Certification policy can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/allprowebworks.dev\/_iacis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IACIS-Certification-Policy-v4.6.pdf\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Peer Review Phase<\/h2>\n<p>Peer Review Chairman: Thomas Reinert<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">The peer review phase consists of the following elements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Four (4) practical problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">30 days to complete each problem<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">You are assigned a coach to guide you through the problem&#8217;s learning points.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Must pass all four problems to be eligible to enter the certification phase.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Certification Phase<\/h2>\n<p>CFCE Certification Chairperson: Craig MacFarlane<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">The certification phase consists of the following elements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Hard Drive practical problem \u2013 30 days to complete<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Knowledge based objective test \u2013 14 days to complete<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Entry into the Certification Phase is automatic once the peer review phase has been completed. The candidate will have 7 days to begin the hard drive problem and 30 days to complete it. Seven days after the peer review phase has been completed whether the candidate logs in or not, the 44 day clock will begin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">The candidate will then go directly into the Knowledge Based test, which consists of 100 general forensic knowledge questions.\u00a0The written exam consists of questions composed of true\/false, multiple-choice, matching, and short essay (fill in the blank) questions.\u00a0Candidates must obtain a minimum score of 80% on the exam and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>practical to pass.\u00a0Failure to achieve the requisite score will result in failure, and the CFCE certification will not be awarded.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\"><strong>The CFCE program is an independent process that candidates must complete independently<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Once both phases have been successfully completed, candidates will be required to complete a notarized form declaring that the practical examination and written examination were completed without assistance from anyone.\u00a0The form must be completed and returned to the CFCE Certification Chairman (or designee) prior to issuance of the CFCE certification.\u00a0The first and last name and certification ID number of each certified\u00a0CFCE member\u00a0will be listed on the IACIS public website.<\/span><br class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\" \/><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">\u00a0<\/span><br class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\" \/><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Candidates failing either the practical examination or written final examination will not be re-examined immediately.\u00a0The candidate can re-take the practical or final written exam in the next certification cycle.\u00a0<\/span>IACIS will allow each candidate to be re-examined one time without charge (practical or final examination).\u00a0Failure of both parts in the Certification Phase will be a failure of the process.\u00a0You only get to take one of the two over.\u00a0The requisite fee for any subsequent re-examination will be based on the fee schedule approved by the Board of Directors and posted on the IACIS website.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">\u00a0<\/span><br class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\" \/><span class=\"ms-rteFontFace-1\">Candidates enrolled in the peer review phase are prohibited from discussing any matters related to the peer review phase with anyone other than their assigned coach, regional manager, division administrator, Peer Review Chairman, or Director of Certification. Candidates enrolled in the certification phase are prohibited from discussing any matters related to the certification phase with anyone other than the CFCE Certification Chairman or Director of Certification.
